How to fall asleep and wake up easily July 14, 2009

This is an intruduction of an easy method to fall asleep in case of insomnia or to wake up fully when the body is still asleep and the alarm clock is ringing mad. I found it out experimentally, but apparently the method is known since ages in India as Pranayama exercise.

How did this idea came up? Usually after a meditation, when my body (physical and subtle) get balanced, I can feel that my nose becomes very clear, even if it was not blocked at all. This is a very pleasant feeling, as if I would get the second breath. This happens automatically without me doing any special yogic exercise for it. As far as I can explain it, the Kundalini does it while rising. Actually this is also a good check up for a quality mediation : )

How is it related to the title of the post? In fact, I use this knowledge of the “pure nose” for regulating my body activity! – and I am sure everyone, either a yoga practitioner or not, can use it same way.

Let me tell you why and how. Basically we have our left side and right side (please read the detailed explanation here and here). If we are active (mentally or physically) our right side is at work. You can notice that at that state your right nostril is more clear. If you feel moody or weak, most probably your right nostril is blocked. Same for the morning wake up.

What can we learn from it? (more…)

The meaning of dreams May 7, 2009

A dream shows the depths of life; through a dream we see things. Has every dream a meaning? Yes; only there are always people in a country who do not know its language, and so it is with minds. Some minds are not yet capable of expressing themselves, so the dreams are upside-down, a chaos. One sees a goat with the ears of an elephant. The mind wants to express itself. There is a meaning in what the child says, but it has not yet learned to speak, it has no words; it can only cry or make a sound; yet this has a meaning. So it is with dreams which are not expressed correctly. There is nothing without meaning; it is our lack of understanding of its meaning that keeps us in darkness.

But what about the quite meaningless dreams one sometimes has? They are due to the condition of the mind. If the condition of the mind is not harmonious, if its rhythm is not regular, then the dream is so mixed up that one cannot read it. It is just like a letter written in the dark; when a person could not see what he was writing. But all the same it is a written letter, it has an idea behind it. Even if the very person who wrote it in the dark room is not able to read it, it still remains a letter. When man cannot understand the meaning of his dream it is not that his dream has no significance; it only means that his own letter has become so confused that he cannot read it himself. (more…)

Where is your attention? June 12, 2008

Our attention is that part of consciousness which we direct at specific things around us. When we are listening intensely to something, we can say that we have our full attention on it. When we are focused on looking at a small object, the same applies. Our attention usually suffers in our day to day activities. It suffers because it is being pulled, jostled, screamed at, and battered by the world in which we live.

WHERE IS OUR ATTENTION DURING THE DAY?

 – As soon as we get up in the morning the breakfast TV or radio starts screaming for our attention, which a stream of salacious news stories, beguiling adverts and a constant flow of general trivia… Stores fronts scream out their aggressive sales messages at us, offering blandishments and signs for Final Sale, 50% Off! or New Season bargains in a thousand attempts to attract our already battered consciousness.

– This constant bombardment fractures our attention in a very subtle way. In fact we suffer more than we know, because after a while we lose the ability to settle down and find peace anywhere. One of the first signs is that we may have trouble sleeping, our mind racing with the events of the day. (more…)
