Social Advertisement in Moscow December 27, 2008

Russians have always been very good at idealistic motivation and inner-propaganda. May be because Russian people are easily inspired by values rather than materialistic ads, the phenomenon of Social Advertisement is very popular and effective in Russia.

Social advertisement (do not mix with advertising in social networks!!) has been around for years and it’s about applying marketing and advertising principles to promote health and social issues and bringing about positive behavior change.

During my trip to Moscow, it was one the things that stroke me and gave food for thought:  the social ads along the escalator in the Moscow tube. I have made some snapshots to illustrate that wonderful phenomenon.

FAMILY:

This ad goes hand in hand with the presently strong state campaign for family life  -the poster quotes a philosopher saying “Family is one of the masterpieces of nature”.  Please note the figures on the poster – the grandparent` look is very modern and rather untypical for Russia, but probably getting closer to the modern urban grandparents… Also both ladies looking rather masculine – a new tendency but still not very typical. Happy Independance Day, Mother India! August 15, 2008

Patriotism is on of the highest feelings, almost spiritual. Patriotic songs mostly give a goose skin and a rise of overwealming feelings. Apart from the Russian anthem which I naturally find very powerful, another song which has a deep impact on me is the national song of India (though distinct from the national anthem of India) – VANDE MATARAM.

As today is the Independance Day of India, I dedicate this post to my numerous Indian readers and friends – you have a great Motherland, please keep the deepness, beauty and glory of it up!

The English Translation of the song goes like this : (more…)

Nikola Tesla on partiotism, science and the future of mankind July 28, 2008

You may remember my fascination for Nikola Tesla, that great genius of the 20th century (read my post on his awesome personality here). He was not only an inventor of Leonardo da Vinci caliber, but also a great visioneer of the future of humanity.

Interestingly, he saw the key to the happy future in the science serving people. And his understanding of science was rather spiritual, than materialistic. He saw science as a living process, the matter as a being. In fact, he was the only human being known who could controll and produce the lightning.

In that respect  I find it intresting to read his thoughts on the possbile (glorious!) future of mankind – and see, how such things like patriotism and science could be connected:

“As long as there are different nationalities, there will be patriotism. This feeling must be eradicated from our hearts before permanent peace can be established. Its place must be filled by love of nature and scientific ideal. Science and discovery are the great forces which will lead to that consummation….The consequences of such an advance are incalculable. Patriotism or false indentifications July 4, 2008

I love the country of my parents – it is my soul and my pride

I love the country of my birth – it is my sweetness and memory

I love the country of my life – it is my cosyness and beauty

I love the country of my dreams – it is my spiritual home

I feel like a patriot of each of them-

Russia, Lithuania, Austria and India

And yet I know that I am above that.

`cause I am the Spirit.
