the only truth I know is my own experience

What’s in the silence? April 21, 2012

Silence is a genuine spiritual phenomenon experienced and described in all traditions. Here is a wonderful collection of quotes by different masters on SILENCE.

“Be quiet in your mind, quiet in your senses, and also quiet in your body. Then, when all these are quiet, don’t do anything. In that state truth will reveal itself to you. It will appear in front of you and ask,” what do you want?”

Kabir

“Empty yourself of everything. Let the mind rest at peace. The ten thousand things rise and fall while the Self watches their return. They grow and flourish and then return to the source. Returning to the source is stillness, which is the way of nature.”

Lao Tzu

“In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness.”

Ghandi

“Be still, and know that I am (God).”

Psalm 46:10 (more…)

The meaning of dreams May 7, 2009

A dream shows the depths of life; through a dream we see things. Has every dream a meaning? Yes; only there are always people in a country who do not know its language, and so it is with minds. Some minds are not yet capable of expressing themselves, so the dreams are upside-down, a chaos. One sees a goat with the ears of an elephant. The mind wants to express itself. There is a meaning in what the child says, but it has not yet learned to speak, it has no words; it can only cry or make a sound; yet this has a meaning. So it is with dreams which are not expressed correctly. There is nothing without meaning; it is our lack of understanding of its meaning that keeps us in darkness.

But what about the quite meaningless dreams one sometimes has? They are due to the condition of the mind. If the condition of the mind is not harmonious, if its rhythm is not regular, then the dream is so mixed up that one cannot read it. It is just like a letter written in the dark; when a person could not see what he was writing. But all the same it is a written letter, it has an idea behind it. Even if the very person who wrote it in the dark room is not able to read it, it still remains a letter. When man cannot understand the meaning of his dream it is not that his dream has no significance; it only means that his own letter has become so confused that he cannot read it himself. (more…)

You foollish mind October 29, 2008

Oh! You foolish mind, why can’t you see the obvious,

that everyting that you think is yours

does not belong to you.

The pure knowledge, the brains to grasp it,

the talents, the beauty, whatever that’s truly precious,

comes from one ultimate source,

and there it has got to return,

set free by the free will,

the only thing that we can dare to call our own.

What happens after self-realisation? October 8, 2008

After getting self-realisaitonwe start to engage in a very subtle battle between the head and the heart, or we can say the ego and the spirit. Up until the moment we gain our self-relisaiton we will have been under the complete “control” of our ego; we have made decisions based on our desires and wants, we have experienced emotional crests and troughs, we have suppressed our true selves beneath an unconscious set of accumulated baggage which has ruled our lives.

How many of us have ignored the warning signs of a relationships which was clearly not good for us, but whoch filled some other need – usually fear or loneliness? How many have accepted situations which we truly did not enjoy, want or need, simply to maintain our popularity or status with friends and family? Who hasn’t acted impetuously and stupidly and not regreted it afterwards? These are all signs of a perfectly normal lifestyle, but one that has been governed by the ego and superego in us. A life of compromise governed by our weakness. Even when we thought we were acting from the heart! (more…)

Where is your attention? June 12, 2008

Our attention is that part of consciousness which we direct at specific things around us. When we are listening intensely to something, we can say that we have our full attention on it. When we are focused on looking at a small object, the same applies. Our attention usually suffers in our day to day activities. It suffers because it is being pulled, jostled, screamed at, and battered by the world in which we live.

WHERE IS OUR ATTENTION DURING THE DAY?

 – As soon as we get up in the morning the breakfast TV or radio starts screaming for our attention, which a stream of salacious news stories, beguiling adverts and a constant flow of general trivia… Stores fronts scream out their aggressive sales messages at us, offering blandishments and signs for Final Sale, 50% Off! or New Season bargains in a thousand attempts to attract our already battered consciousness.

– This constant bombardment fractures our attention in a very subtle way. In fact we suffer more than we know, because after a while we lose the ability to settle down and find peace anywhere. One of the first signs is that we may have trouble sleeping, our mind racing with the events of the day. (more…)
