the only truth I know is my own experience

Who wants money? July 18, 2009

“Me!” would be probably the first reaction of all most of the people.

Do you really want money? – if even now the answer is ” yes” then you are already a millionaire.

The truth is, only a tiny percent of mankind  really wants money and these are the same people who own great material riches. I talked to some people who know personally the so-called Russian oligarchs (people who became incredibly rich and influential  in a short time) – they say that it is the love for money as object that has driven them all to becoming so rich.

The truth is that an average citizen of any country is not really interested in money. Sure, no one would mind comforts and other benefits that money brings with. However it is a very seldom case that someone is interested in possessing huge sums of money as such. And the one who is obsessed with the idea usually gets it!

Why this? (more…)

Social Advertisement in Moscow December 27, 2008

Russians have always been very good at idealistic motivation and inner-propaganda. May be because Russian people are easily inspired by values rather than materialistic ads, the phenomenon of Social Advertisement is very popular and effective in Russia.

Social advertisement (do not mix with advertising in social networks!!) has been around for years and it’s about applying marketing and advertising principles to promote health and social issues and bringing about positive behavior change.

During my trip to Moscow, it was one the things that stroke me and gave food for thought:  the social ads along the escalator in the Moscow tube. I have made some snapshots to illustrate that wonderful phenomenon.

FAMILY:

This ad goes hand in hand with the presently strong state campaign for family life  -the poster quotes a philosopher saying “Family is one of the masterpieces of nature”.  Please note the figures on the poster – the grandparent` look is very modern and rather untypical for Russia, but probably getting closer to the modern urban grandparents… Also both ladies looking rather masculine – a new tendency but still not very typical. Why only few people are good at sales? July 1, 2008

Two questions:

1. why it is the sales manager who are the best paid and most desirable?

2. why there is so much job-hopping in sales? Why so many start and give up? And why does the best salesmen become best-sellers themselves?

I was facing this phenomenon for some time and came to a interesting conclusion to sell things is not a natural thing for most of the people! Most of us have a big difficulty already with selling “themselves” – what to say about selling products/ideas/stuff… It is not by chance that sales is often being labeled as a “hard” job.

The deeper reason for it  – my own theory, may be totally wrong – I see it in the general consumerisation. Our real needs are not that many. Most of the things being forced on us  we actually don’t need. If a human being would only buy what he/she needs – there is no need to sell it aggressively: just open a shop and stay behind the bar. Isn`t it so? (more…)

I did it! – I watched the match Russia-Sweden on TV June 19, 2008

Russian fan in Vienna (image by axinia)

I really watched the match! 🙂 For someone who does not watch TV since years it is really something special. I used to watch football some years ago, so I basically know what it is about. Not every play is captivating, some are really boring. This time I was lucky enough to enjoy a good play – the young Russian team was fast and successful.

Austria is in football mood now – I would not say that Austrians are great fans and keen on that thing, but marketing and PR people are doing a their job and the crowd is being brain washed to participate and buy all sorts of products in connection with that. At some point it gets too much…

Now let me use this topic and share my thoughts on football.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT FOOTBALL: watching a play, following the ball attentively one gets thoughtless. that is almost like a mediation. It is a great effect. Apart from that one is not alone and is kind of connected to millions of others watching it at the same time. Thus, football is a kind of a collective mediation.:)

The descrete charms of the world bourgeoisie April 6, 2008

In the mouth of Society are diseased teeth, decayed to the bone of the jaws. But society makes no efforts to have them extracted and be rid of the affliction. It contents itself with gold filling. Many are dentists who treat the decayed teeth of Society with glittering gold.

What is really wrong with capitalism? Or Why I believe in communism. February 23, 2008

Capitalism, Neo-Liberalism, Corporatism – call it whatever, I personally have a big difficulty with the kind of a system I live in. One of the reasons for that difficulty can be that I spent my childhood and youth in a society that was not driven by money and consumption (at least not to that extend like in the West). It seemed to me that people  – because they were not that stressed to make money and to spend them – lived happier, enjoyed more and appreciated the human values like friendship, family, creativity.

When I came to live in the West 10 years ago I was most of all shocked by the concept of profit, which seemed to be very natural for people here. Profit, copy-right, interest… It took me years to comprehend the ways and methods of this system. And now, while working as a Sales Manager in the Marketing and PR business (!)  – imagine what I think about all that machine. Day by day, the more I can penetrate into the depth of the capitalism, the more I understand that my personal belief lays somewhere else. May be I am a communist? (more…)
