Spirituality is obviously becoming popular, if not to say a fashion. Many people start seeking something beyond their regular life, even whose who have been quite materialistic before. A great spiritual awakening all over the Earth is taking place and along with it more and more people call themselves spiritual.
But what does it mean, to be a spiritual person? Is there any clearcut description? Accidentally I found one on the web, take a look.
Quite interesting. A good check-up 🙂
NINE IDENTIFICATIONS OF SPIRITUAL PERSON
1. Synergy between Words and Action
The actions of a spiritual person are always in harmony with his words. He speaks only what he truly believes in. If one only observe the lives of most people who call themselves spiritual, he can immediacy notice the different between their words and deeds. While they may be preaching equality, yet they treat themselves as superior from others. While, they may ask people to lead simple lives, yet they themselves live in good houses and wear expensive cloths and ornaments. A spiritual person does not say anything which is impractical. He demonstrates the practicality of his principles by following the words spoken by him.
2. Self-Realization
One has to make a distinction between scholar and spiritual person. Any person with good memory can remember each word of a scripture and prove anything by the strength of logic. A scholar always supports his argument with some reference of other studies or scripture. However, a spiritual person is a self-realized person whose knowledge has emerged from within. Thus he instead of “having knowledge” has “become knowledge” as his persona has become one with Spirit. Thus his explanation emerges directly from his soul and convinces the person rather than asking people to get convinced because someone has said so, or something is written in a scripture or some study has proven something.
3. Peace
A spiritual person is the one whose soul has become one with God or Spirit. Thus he can know the world from a much wider perspective. His mind is in peace like the water in the depth of a sea. He knows that everything that happens in the world has some logic in it. He can know the cause and effect through his intuition. Hence he is always at peace and does not feel disturbed by the mundane things of the world which are like waves on the surface of a sea.
4. Indifference to Physical Appearance
Spirituality is complementary to materialism just like the spirit is complementary to body. One who focuses on body can not focus on spirit. Thus a spiritual person is indifferent for the physical appearance of the self and others. He does not identify the person from his exterior covering but identify from his soul. The appearance is immaterial to him. Hence if a person wears designer’s cloth and keeps focuses in being physically attractive, he has least chances of being spiritual. It is no surprise that most spiritual people keep beard which actually covers the physical attractiveness of the body.
5. Unconditionally Loving
Love is the most important character of a spiritual person. He does not hate anyone including the criminal and terrorist. It may look weird and impossible to ordinary man but not to the spiritual person. Just like we all like everything about ourselves including our not so perfect body, in the same way for a spiritual person there is not “other” so he identify even with his enemies.
6. Equality and Justice
God has created everyone equal even though He has given everyone a different role. However, man put material value on the human being on the basis of demand and supply. For example, the President of a nation is far more valued than the ordinary sweeper because there is only one post of President and large number of applicants. While, there are plenty of sweepers with a few applicants. However, it can not be denied that both are required for the nation. A spiritual person, therefore, never distinguish people based on their religion, caste, economic status or position in the society as he is able to see everyone with the same eye.
7. Devoid of Passion
A spiritual person is never in hurry as he does not have lust or passion for anything. A man of passion always have to do something, thus he feels restless all the time. However a spiritual person knows his role in the scheme of things and does what is in the best interest of the world. He is a yogi, who has complete control over his body, senses and mind.
8. Humility
A spiritual person is always humble as he sees God in every person or he considers everyone as the extension of the self. He knows that he is merely a tool in the hands of God and he has been send in this world to perform a particular function. There can never be an element of pride in him.
Can a machine be proud of his function? Should not the credit of the performance of the functioning of machine go to its designer? Why should a man then feel pride of his achievements?
The need for humility is demonstrated by Jesus Himself when he washed the feet of his disciple.
9. Compassion and Forgiveness
A spiritual man is the most forgiving as he knows that everyone will be judged as per his deeds by God. He never put himself on the place of God and judges a person by his own standards. Thus, even if someone has wronged him or wronged other person, he always seeks forgiveness from God for him. Thus instead of hating a person whose action is not in conformity with his desire or as per the scripture, he shows compassion for all.
Spirituality is for Everyone
Man is born spiritual. Jesus in his first teaching said,
“It is written: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

I find the text hit the nail, exept for the point Nr.4 🙂 – I mean of cause one should not try too hard to be attractive, but I concider a phycial beauty and especially an outer harmony which a spiritual person emits to be a reflection of his/her inner state.
Besides, a spiritual “attractiveness” and beauty can be easily distinguished form the “worldly” ones.
You are right to question that category, but I think there is more to question in this list. I suppose once one starts to write on this subject contradictions are inevitable. And our expectations of a spiritual person can be projections of our own limitations.
Why should a spiritual person have to conform to any set of criteria? He or she should be capable of any thought, any feeling, and any action that anyone else is capable of. The difference is that their thoughts, feelings, and actions have no lasting effect that binds them to material life.
The analogy has been given that any action leaves a karmic scar. In most people the scar is like a deep line scratched on a rock that never goes away. As we progress spiritually the mark is like a line on sand, which can soon be covered again by wind. Later as we evolve, our actions leave a mark like a finger drawn across water, and the karma is resolved almost immediately. Finally, when we are free, the action, thought, or feeling is like a line drawn in the air.
So it doesn’t matter what the spiritual person chooses to do or desire or “be like”, since actions and desires are no longer bound by material limits. Spirituality is not a badge someone wears, it is more like they are invisible.
Terry, what do you mean by saying “it is more like they are invisible”? To me, a spiritual peorson is very much visible, since it really differes from the rest, there is this special glow on the face which is unmistakable…
Your take on karma in case of a spiritual person (Later as we evolve, our actions leave a mark like a finger drawn across water, and the karma is resolved almost immediately. ) is totally new to me, soudns really good and promissing – but is that really so or it is just one more concept? Have you experienced it yourself?
It’s a good point that a spiritual person should not confrm any set of criteria, but the funny thing is that…it does. At least what my exeperice tells, I can easily recognzie a spiritual person by some certain features, which are often beyond words, but still they are, So there must be some criteria…or how do you recognize?
“
For ten years I had two Samoyed dogs. Their white fur and smiling expression makes them unmistakable. They liked all dogs but they were never happier than when they were in the company of other Samoyeds. They seemed to glow in a group.
I think the same recognition applies to spiritualy. We feel happy–beyond happy–in the presence of spiritual people. You cannot recognize them by their outward attributes because they naturally do not make a point of displaying such qualities outwardly (which is why I say invisible). And sometimes those characteristics can be manufactured by people simply with large egos, so why trust perceptions?
However, that sense of feeling bliss is unmistakable and can be trusted. You can learn a lot about spirituality from dogs, too.
an interesting example with dogs 🙂 no idea, I am not that fond of dogs and had no chances to watch them much. I find people more interesting.
A good point on ego “And sometimes those characteristics can be manufactured by people simply with large egos,” i heard about it before, but never seen it. Since I can feel vibrations of every person und subject, it’s not a problem to check the true identity 🙂 Vibrations do not depend on self-presentation, it is a truly spritual instrument.
Axina, spirit is everywhere, so spirituality can be reached by any means. A guru is one choice. But the choices are endless. Everything from nature to books to dance to the tantra devotee in a communing with Kali graveyard at night to money, sex, drugs, and rock&roll. Everything is a path, but not all paths are suitable for everyone and many have risks or very long time horizons.
What really counts is where you put your attention in all the moments of your life. The spiritual person has his or her attention on spirit to whatever degree they can manage. And by this view everyone is a spiritual person in training. One can discriminate among the degrees, but I don’t think the result is profitable spiritually.
absolutely agree that a spiritual person keeps always the attention on the Spirit! And of cause, evryone ahs a potential to Spirituality, as you well say “spiritual person in training”.
…and some of these you mention will destroy you completely.
If your attention is in the right place then there is no need to do any of these things, except perhaps to experience what others are going through so you can know better how to get them out of it.
There are boundaries which if properly adhered to, by making the right choices, with recognition that that which is in control, and thus that which we need to be in tune with, is beyond our control.
The profit is that we realise it is too precious to keep to one’s self, and thus we inevitably find ways of giving it away, just for our own enjoyment.

without self realization and balancing oneself, vibration doesn’t come!! Identification of vibration is also important. Why ?How ? when?
Which person is called as realized soul? who has done noble work for humanity ,like Mother Teressa? but still it is common understanding of a people. People don’t know about vibrations and vibratory awareness. In Ma slaw’s trangle Self actualization is at top and people like Mother Teressa might have achieved that but what about self realization? where it stands in Ma slaw’s hierarchy? …. as is earlier blog I feel He is Mr. Nobody, doesnt require identity and not interested in any set of criteria.he lives in his own wisdom apart from all universe.
mahesh, Mother Teresa is a bit a worng example here, I would not call her spiritual.
That only I am saying. Mostly people confuse with it.I have given that example because it is common misunderstanding among people that such people are spiritual. What I feel she might have achieved self actualization in her life but not self realization. What,s your opinion?
no idea 🙂 I am not interested much in this person.
Axinia, can you give me an a perceptual model for personal feeling of vibration either on neurological basis or on psychological basis as many times when it is argue d they say either it is delusional or just hallucination and totally reject the theory so I want to collect more relevant and factual data about it as my dissertation will be evidence based. Any way you know now I am doing P.G.in Medical Surgical Nursing and I have to select 10 topics for my dissertation for partial fulfillment of degree, out of which one will be selected by ethical committee so can you suggest a statement which will fit in alternative medicine related to mass / individual healing from practices of Sahajayoga. It is my open desire to research in this field. please think and suggest
hi Mahesh, for scientific evidence check the blog of the Australian Dr. Ramesh Manocha http://www.drrameshmanocha.com/
From my side I can only say that the best evidence for me is when childern van feel cool breeze immediately BEFORE you tell them something that they will feel anything!!! This can be no way hallucination, because they were not aware.
Also at progrmms I always tell people” you may feel comething, but I will not tell you what, fint it yourself”, so taht people can make a clear experiement, without any expectation.
Thanks.
I Have that sight ID.I have got numbers and mail ID also, I will talk with him very soon for further guidance.
but what about conceptual model ? How and why we get vibrations?
Beautiful I love it 🙂 helps me set goals to better myself….Glad u are still posting Axinia 🙂
CECE, thank you 🙂 It has been a bitt busy time at work, so I could not post much recently. But I will do my best!
A beautiful article!!
Great Text! That definition fits perfectly. Thanks 🙂
As human don’t become “spiritual” but are spiritual by nature , point 11:
Even if many of the other points might reflect our expectations of what a spiritual person” is, forget “normative” spirituality, and find out life is wider.
We all have the Spirit within, whatever the cover is… However to get this manifested requieres a desire and certain strength. And yes, life is indeed wider. I wonder which other points you can contribute?
I can only repeating myself.
Spirituality is not something the human “obtains through efforts”, but his nature.Leaving him/her as he/she truly is instead of impacting him/her with “betterness” aims doubting his original potential, is the despiritualisation trick to get him to “make efforts”(a neurological failing right at the word go!), and by that dividing him/her from him/herself and his potential.
Lets question: who has a profit to describe the human as inhuman without “their wise help” ? This splitting “sin” done to the human spirit is not original, but had devastating effects.
For most people it takes effort to realise that self-realisation, or, knowledge that one is innately spiritual, but that realisation only comes when the effort stops. Any effort thereafter will be toward trying to introduce others to themselves, in a bid to relieve the perpetuation of suffering caused by those who don’t consider the consequences of their actions in the light of the fact that we are all the same andinherently divine.
Thus there are principles that determine our innate spirituality as human beings, and thus their are boundaries that must be adhered to in order to be benign, so long as we agree that being spiritual is the same as being truthful. Is it wrong for one to try and show someone where those boundaries are ?
It’s not about ‘betterness’ as such, it’s about ‘realisation’ of the absolute principles which result in humans being innately spiritual. That spirituality has to manifest, if someone is not manifesting it they are not complete; the spirituality is wasted through lack of wisdom. Wisdom comes from learning, learning requires consciousness, self-realisation makes us conscious of the unconscious, what good is consciousness if it is not expressed ? For sure, HOW it is expressed is also significant of the degree to which one knows one’s self ( as one with everything ), truth is love and love is truth, ‘God’ is Love and Truth.
There are three aspects to human ‘nature’, the passive, the active, and the point where the two are in harmony with the divine. This third natural state is achieved when we can let go to the divine in all things, it happens spontaneously, naturally. ‘Sahaj Yoga’ as a discipline, helps us to achieve that state easily, by making the right choices, based upon spiritual tradition.

Add your thoughts here… (optional)
You are telling us that a spritiual person has no pride. But that’s not true. Powerful incarnations, starseeds,… are often very proud and narcisstic because of their pineal gland etc. You know… Please dont make spirituality a religion. There is bo belief-patterns. Everyone is as he should be at the moment(!). All the psychics, “indigos”,… normally don’t hang around “normal” people… im talking about born psychics, incarnations, born spirtual,… These kids with those auras… They are how they are. Please no belief systems… You are talking about “Christ Consciousness” I think… All those powerful people are born spiritual and there are very different kinds. Of course some will become “spiritual” later.. but you get me… Some of them are really “evil”, too. Heaven and hell is based on you and what you think of yourself I guess, so we can’t tell him or her how to be.. It’s awesome that you work with your heart (I guess so) but I have the urge to tell you because someone will not like it. (I dont even say its right or wrong what you say!)
with at the moment I mean that they may be in learning phase for example* ❤️
But I just thought about it, I think I have a different meaning of spirituality than you. So you are correct in your way, I’m so sorry! 😊
