Opera for everyone October 26, 2009

Have I already mentioned Vienna is the best city in the world? Apart from the official ranking results, I am deeply convinced about it myself.

Vienna is the City of Music, no doubt. The marketing works well and you will be reminded of that more often than anywhere else: in the city center you pass a duet of street singers, a small accordion band, a guitar soloist,

and finally come across about a hundred people staring up at an enormous outdoor LCD screen displaying live opera.

Since this summer Vienna has a new attraction: For the first time, selected performances are being broadcasted live on a giant screen in front of the State Opera House. Free to consume :).

Last night, while strolling around the city, I suddenly heard the sounds of my beloved Mozart from far away… OMG, was that beautiful! It felt so majestic and at the same time so natural, in a perfect harmony with the surroundings…

By the way this is not the only one free acces to Classics in Vienna – since a long time they have a great tradition of a summer open-air Opera Film screening at Rathaus Platz.

I don`t know if all that has a special effect on the Viennese character, I can not state that the citizens of this dream city are happy and satisfied individuals  but generally the Spirit of Culture and Classical music along with the beautiful architecture has a certain pleasant impact, at least on myself :).

LOVE, axinia

  1. Lovely atmosphere to enjoy the music!

My city is also a city of music but we haven’t had street performances until this year.

Is the little kid the grandson of the solo performer?

    • axinia Says:

no 🙂 he is the son of the lady who wanted to give some money to the street musician.

      • Foolish me! I didn’t think of that possibility because I thought you were the lady – it wasn’t too clear from the picture (the evening light and the warm clothes).

Anyway, the kid looks cute! His innocent expression has been captured beautifully! 🙂

:))) Raj, if you compare the lady on the first photo and me on the last..you will definitely see there is a difference 🙂

this is smart, there must be very good functioning brains in Vienna gov, differently than somewherelse. but i am noticing that each city has its own focuses. In HK where i live that focus is the business and not teh enjoyment of the art or classical music, these aspects are kept on a moreless normal level of satisfaction without any particular stress. (Hanging a huge screen displaying great musical performances means to stress a culture of music and good listening).

yes, they do cultivate it, because the Spirit of Vienna tells it, I believe. It comes so natural. But surely there is a commercial intrest behind – tourist attraction. They do a lot for that!!
