Western people have the lowest self esteem?

There are over 60.000 books dealing with the subject of self esteem on the global Amazon.com bootstore, and another 105,000 covering self improvement. So it is probably fair to say that we in the modern world have a bit of a problem with self confidence.

At best the problem makes us hesitant, shy and secretive, at worst it drives those at the fringe to become reclusive siciopaths or worse. And the greats irony is that is it the industrial powerhouses of the modern age, the Western countries, which have the biggest share of the problem.

Despite ecomonicaly and culturaly ruling over most of the civilised globe, we still have a hard time believeing in ourselves. Or may be that`s the reason on itself.

Agreed. Your self worth is an underlying factor in determining the level of your self esteem. When you feel good about yourself regardless of your situation, your circumstances, opinions and the economy, you practically increase the potentiality of succeeding in any endeavor.

I have also written an article on ways to improving self esteem at http://www.chargedaudio.com/blog/ways-to-improve-self-esteem/

Thank you for the link and your comment.
Many things can be trained, but it appeares to be like a make up or - at the most - plastic surgery. We can learn lots of tricks and tech ourselves, but the true self-esteem comes only from withing, as sonn as we realisy WHO we ARE, as soon as we touch our SPIRIT.

It is hard to accept ourselves as we are, we keep comparing ourselves with others, at every moment in every respect.

Wow, it’s the challenging post. Numbers provoke to dig deeper and thus awaken.
I would say that “Western people have the lowest self esteem?” is the test of listening comprehension. As much as I know, totally all literature (creative thought - art and politics) are based on the same “self confidence” - deal with the same question of “self improvement” - that’s the eternal theme. One and only novelty of the modern times is in the manner of talking: love stories dress into the talking on how to love and the musing on what’s the love is. Stylistic devices drastically change the taste of life we experience, but the love remains the same…
I cant talk in the name of unknown to me cultures, but I am deeply convinced that the “lowest self esteem” defines the today of our Earth much more than just the Western people

Its been 2 years (i know little time) i, western girl raised and educated in the west, have been livin in the east together with an eastern hubbie too! its a little shock which calms down more and more thanks to the meditation. More than few times it came to my mind to witness these games of the selfesteem, either in myself here either interacting with the people born here. I found that in most of the situations we have the same level of selfesteem and low esteem, although on this topic books write more in the West. I have the feeling that the western risen heart miss something that the eastern risen heart has already achieved AND VICEVERSA. we are just on the way to give a new completed united aspect of the selfesteem to the all world (eastern and western included). We need to oserve better what we miss and learn it from the other, absorb it, develop it …
